That's about a 2-3 hour drive from where I live, so can't help much on the local part. In general, the So. California real estate market is just bouncing back from about a 10 year decline. It has been on an upswing for about the last year. Don't know if the properties out in the desert were affected that much though. Rentals in my area have gone up right along with the housing market.
Quality of life here is GREAT! You get your choice of desert, beach, river, mountains (snow, if you want to drive to it; but sometimes local in the desert), woods, and like Sabro said, 12 months of motorcycle riding. If you're planning to work when you get here, you might have to commute though, and Frank would be the best one to fill you in on the "wonders" of that.
Let us know if you get out this way. We may eventually have enough people to get a West Coast rally together!
